About Me
Emily Drake is a filmmaker and feminist, working in the Toronto indie film scene. She creates and seeks out projects that centre the de-centered and offer razor-sharp insights into social justice issues through the language of cinema. She is passionate about stories that explore mental health, identity crises, and other depressing topics, all through the hilarious lens of comedy.
Emily wrote and directed the award-winning short comedy/horror Late Night Fright, and had the honour of working on the groundbreaking CBC-Gem web series Get Up, Aisha, which explores mental health and identity (two of my favourite things!).
Most recently, Emily wrote and directed a Short Documentary, Intangible, that will shortly be running the film festival circuit. This documentary explores the unseen experiences of chronic social anxiety and poses the question: can a visual artist help us see someone elses intangible experience of social anxiety, through the language of visual art? This documentary aims to find out.
ABOUT MY WORK

SCRIPT SUPERVISOR
Make your editor and director happy – hire a Script Super! I love helping you create the best possible film; with seamless logic, detailed notes for post, and reliable shot coverage for every single scene, this is an investment that is more than worth your dollar.

DIRECTOR
I’m passionate about stories that touch on one (or all!) of the following: identity crises, music, mental health, romance, or just generally a sense of the ridiculous. Nothing better than sinking into a good story, and then making it come alive on screen.

SCRIPT CONTENT & EDITING
I love getting my hands dirty in the mess of a great story that’s in the works. Got style or word choice problems? Grammar not treating you right? Let me at ‘em!

VIDEO EDITING
As a music lover, the rhythm and drive of an edit is a fascinating process. The way an edit can shape and re-shape a story is a kind of magic I’ll never tire of.

ORIGINAL WRITING
With at least 4 projects always on the go, writing is a world I am always excited to drop into. I aim to bring to life alternative stories focused on people’s inner experiences, of themselves, of mental health (their own or someone else’s), or the world around them. I write to discover perspective.
